Ball Busters win USSSA state title

Burlington, North Carolina was the host of the U.S.S.S.A. state championship. The Ball Busters softball team made its way into the tournament already familiar with the fields at City Park. It was just a week prior to these state games that the team participated in the N.S.A. Director's Cup event and took first place going undefeated in the D class tournament.

The team started the tournament with a tough competitor in McKenzie's Tree services. After a lead off home run, resulting in an offensive ejection, the team had its work cut out for them. It was the 6th and 7th inning when Ball Busters created some run production and went on to win its first game 10-5.

The team played a hard fought battle for its second game, winning 10-9. In the third game the Ball Busters hitting was continuous as the team run-ruled team Line Drive by a score of 22-9. The team finished the first day of the tournament undefeated and looking to come back on Sunday in the winner's bracket.

Starting out the second day, Ball Busters won its first game and positioned themselves in a battle of the winners' bracket versus the only other undefeated team. The results was a win by run-rule and the team sitting and waiting for the State championship.

The championship game would be Ball Busters versus Carolina Extreme (the same matchup as the previous battle for the undefeated winners' bracket). This time the Ball Busters would take their first and only loss of the tournament with an 11-10 defeat. Forcing an "IF" game...

In the final championship game the team was prepared to play and display its talent with offensive talents. The team was victorious by a run-rule score of 17-7. Ball Busters wins the State title and secures its berth to the World Series in Orlando.

All tournament team selections were Brandon "Beezio" Belton, Brandon "Meat" Scoggins, Dan Carter, Bryan Martzahl, Jeff "Moe" Moore, Dustin Shoaf.

Ball Busters softball team wins another Director's Cup event

After a month and a half compiling several top 5 finishes along with a 9th place finish in the USSSA N.I.T. tournament, the team seemed to be searching for its identity. After all, it wasn't long ago (back in May & June) when the team won 2 tournaments in a row and followed it up with a second place finish in the state games. However, a weak performance in the Super State tournament, marked by several players' abscence seemed to have put the team into unfamiliar territory. The Ball Busters went into the Capital City Classic (July 24th-26th)with a few new players and managed to earn a 5th place finish.

After making some additional personnel changes and trying a new approach, the team put it together this past weekend going undefeated and winning the 4th annual NSA Hooters Shootout (a director's cup event). You could certainly see that the team was out having fun again while making things happen on the field. According to one player, "The only thing missing this weekend was the ball that our 3rd baseman swung at for strike 3!"

The team is looking strong again and looks forward to playing in the USSSA state tournament this upcoming weekend. Ball Busters is showing to have all of its 14 man roster at the field. Come out and see them at City Park in Burlington, NC.

Ball Busters continue the streak with 2nd place finish in the NSA State games

The team traveled to Charlotte this past weekend to compete in the Director's Cup NC state games.

Looking to pick up some points in the battle for the Director's Cup, the team decided to play despite missing several starters.

With the temperature hitting 90 degrees during the start of their first game, the team was battling the heat and a solid C team in Maxon/Moores Construction. The game ended with a 21-19 loss to the eventual winners of the C bracket play.

The Ball Busters team went on to play in the D bracket and took home a 2nd place finish.

Ball Busters win Luck Dog Invitational

Wrapping up three weekends in a row, the Ball Busters' team wins the Lucky Dog Invitational. This was an NSA Director's Cup series event and will surely boost the teams points in this series.

The team was looking forward to another good day on the field when they went into Sunday morning in the winner's bracket to face All the King's Men. However, the team's 8 game winning streak was snapped and they were sent down to the loser's bracket.

A come from behind / extra inning game against B&G started another winning streak and got the team into the championship game. They would need to "double-dip" All the King's Men (ATKM) to take home the tournament title.

The first game of the finals showed that the Ball Busters were wanting a back-to-back weekend of tournament titles. The team came out and run-ruled ATKM by a score of 26-11. This forced the "if" game and put all the marbles on the table for both teams. The Ball Busters rallied back again in the top of the 7th and held on for another victory, winning this Director's cup series event.
